Sniffer4D Inhalable Particulate Matter Sensing Module: Detect PM 1.0, 2.5, and 10 in a Single Flight

The Sniffer4D Inhalable Particulate Matter (PM 1.0, 2.5, and 10) Sensing Module is a light scattering sensor that installs into one of the five internal slots on the Sniffer4D Nano 2 Plus Base Unit, adding airborne particulate detection to any mission. It measures three particle size ranges at once, from ultrafine PM 1.0 up to PM 10, giving field teams a single module for broad particulate screening.

Built for environmental monitoring teams, industrial hygiene inspectors, and UAS operators tracking air quality across job sites, the module pairs with a Sniffer4D Nano 2 Plus Base Unit, which is required separately to fly it. An on-chip humidity correction algorithm keeps readings accurate across variable field conditions, from dry inland sites to humid coastal environments.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Light scattering detection: senses PM 1.0, PM 2.5, and PM 10.
  • 5 ug/m3 detection limit: catches low concentration particulate matter events.
  • 1000 ug/m3 linear range: covers light haze to heavy particulate events.
  • Sub 10 second response: delivers fast readings during active flight.
  • Humidity correction: on-chip algorithm maintains accuracy across variable field conditions.
  • 36 month service life: built for long term field deployment.
  • Under 2% FS repeatability: delivers consistent readings across repeated passes.
  • 1 ug/m3 resolution: captures fine changes in particulate matter concentration.
  • Single slot install: adds particulate sensing to any Base Unit build.
  • Under 10 second warm-up: begins accurate sensing shortly after power-on.

The PM Sensing Module exists to give environmental monitoring programs a fast, in-flight way to screen particulate concentrations across a jobsite or region. By adding broad PM 1.0 through PM 10 coverage to a single Base Unit slot, it turns routine air quality flights into a more complete dataset.

DSLRPros configures your Sniffer4D Nano 2 Plus Base Unit with the PM Sensing Module installed and tested before it ships, so your five slot build arrives mission ready. Our technicians can help you decide which module combination fits your monitoring program best. Order the PM Sensing Module from DSLRPros and add particulate detection to your next flight.

Does the PM Sensing Module work on its own, or do I need other hardware?

You need a Sniffer4D Nano 2 Plus Base Unit to fly this module, since it installs into one of the Base Unit's five internal slots rather than operating as a standalone device. The module itself handles particulate detection, while the Base Unit provides power, connectivity, data storage, and the physical mount to your drone. If you do not already own a Base Unit, DSLRPros can configure one with this module pre-installed. This keeps setup simple and confirms compatibility before it ships.

How accurate are the PM readings in humid conditions?

The module includes an on-chip proprietary humidity correction algorithm designed specifically to maintain data quality across a wide humidity range. This means readings stay reliable whether you are flying in a dry inland environment or a humid coastal site. Accuracy still depends on general operating conditions being within the module's rated range. DSLRPros can advise on expected performance for your specific site conditions if needed.

Does drone speed or sudden movement affect particulate matter readings?

Yes, to a limited degree. The sensor uses diffusion-based air intake rather than fully isokinetic sampling, so sudden acceleration, braking, sharp turns, or flight speeds above 10 m/s can cause brief fluctuations of roughly 5 to 10 µg/m³ in the readings. AIRINS recommends keeping flight speed at or below 8 m/s for the most stable data. Smooth, steady flight paths will give you the most consistent particulate readings across a mission.

Which DJI drones can carry the PM Sensing Module?

The module flies on whatever Base Unit configuration you have, and the Base Unit connects natively to the DJI Matrice 4D and 4TD through the aircraft's E-Port. For the Matrice 400, Matrice 4E and 4T, and Matrice 350 and 300, a separately sold integration kit is required for the Base Unit itself. Confirm your airframe with DSLRPros when ordering so your kit and module selection match your platform.

How many particle sizes does this module measure at the same time?

The module measures three particle size ranges simultaneously: PM 1.0 (0.3 to 1 micron), PM 2.5 (0.3 to 2.5 microns), and PM 10 (0.3 to 10 microns). This gives you a single reading set that spans from ultrafine to coarse inhalable particulates in one flight. It is built for general environmental air quality monitoring rather than a single, narrow particle band. If your program needs total suspended particulate readings up to 100 microns, that requires the separate TSP/PM 100 module instead, which occupies all five Base Unit slots.
