Gremsy VIO G1: The Radiometric Payload for Industrial & Diagnostic Missions

The Gremsy VIO G1 is a lightweight, NDAA-compliant electro-optical and infrared payload built for professional day-to-night missions on the SkyScout Series drones.

It integrates three sensor systems in a single 854-gram, 3-axis stabilized package: a 4K EO camera with 20× optical zoom and 240× combined maximum zoom, a Thermal Core 640 Radiometric sensor delivering 640×512 imagery at 30 Hz, and a laser rangefinder accurate to 0.1–0.5 m at ranges up to 2,400 m (1.5 miles).

Configured for the SkyScout Series, it ships pre-integrated with the software and settings needed for mount-and-go deployment — no custom configuration required.

Payload Highlights

  • Thermal Core 640 Radiometric sensor: 640×512 at 30 Hz with ≤50 mK sensitivity and radiometric temperature overlay on live video
  • Wide scene temperature range: -20°C to 150°C (high gain) and 0°C to 550°C (low gain) for demanding industrial and diagnostic workflows
  • 19 mm fixed focus athermal lens: narrower FOV optimized for longer-range thermal detection at standoff
  • 4K EO camera: 8.51 MP 1/2.5-inch CMOS with 20× optical and 240× combined maximum zoom
  • 2,400 m laser rangefinder: 0.1–0.5 m accuracy for precise distance measurement at range
  • 3-axis stabilization: 854 g gimbal maintains stable imaging through flight dynamics and wind
  • Simultaneous EO and thermal streams: PiP, Side-by-Side, Sync, and overlay display modes supported
  • AI object detection: human and vehicle detection on live feed with auto zoom tracking
  • NDAA compliant and FCC approved: meets government and public safety procurement requirements
  • GPS geotagging: location data embedded in EO and IR image files for mapping and reporting workflows
  • 128 GB microSD included: UHS-I card for onboard EO and IR capture pre-installed in the box

For government, public safety, and industrial operators running ISR, infrastructure inspection, search and rescue, or environmental monitoring missions on SkyScout Series platforms, the VIO G1 delivers imaging depth, thermal detection, and precise ranging in a payload that is NDAA compliant and FCC approved out of the box.

EO Camera

The 4K EO camera combines 20× optical and 30× super-resolution zoom for a 240× combined maximum. Operators can resolve fine detail at standoff distances that keep the aircraft well clear of the subject or structure under observation.

Thermal Imaging

The Thermal Core 640 Radiometric sensor captures 640×512 imagery at 30 Hz with ≤50 mK sensitivity. Its scene temperature range spans -20°C to 150°C in high gain and 0°C to 550°C in low gain, making the VIO G1 well suited to industrial diagnostics and high-temperature anomaly detection. Radiometric data overlays directly on the runtime video feed, giving operators live temperature readings without post-processing.

Thermal Lens

The 19 mm fixed focus athermal lens maintains consistent focus across varying temperatures. Its narrower field of view is optimized for longer-range thermal observation at standoff distances.

AI Detection and Display

AI object detection for humans and vehicles runs on the live feed with auto zoom tracking. Simultaneous EO and thermal streams are supported with PiP, Side-by-Side, Sync, and EO/IR overlay display modes.

Three Sensor Systems, One Pre-Integrated Payload

The VIO G1's operational value is in what it replaces: three separate sensor systems that would otherwise require independent mounting, calibration, and integration work on the aircraft.

The 4K EO camera, thermal sensor, and laser rangefinder operate from a single 3-axis stabilized gimbal, share a unified control and display interface, and connect to the SkyScout Series via a single mount the aircraft already supports.

The VIO G1 is configured and tested before it ships — software settings, control interface, and communication protocols are all pre-set — so the operator mounts it and flies.

Compatibility and System Integration

  • SkyScout Series: compatible with SkyScout Series payload mount interface; consult your specific variant requirements prior to ordering
  • ArduPilot and PX4: supported autopilot protocols for integration with compatible flight stacks
  • UART and Ethernet: supported control interfaces for payload communication and configuration
  • microSD up to 128 GB: onboard storage for simultaneous EO and IR capture during flight

Applications and Use Cases

  • ISR and surveillance: 240× combined zoom and thermal detection support long-range situational awareness
  • Search and rescue: Thermal Core 640 Radiometric detects heat signatures in darkness, smoke, and dense terrain
  • Critical infrastructure inspection: 2,400 m rangefinder and optical zoom resolve structural detail at standoff distance
  • Public safety operations: AI object detection and auto zoom tracking support subject monitoring from altitude
  • Industrial diagnostics and asset security: wide scene temperature range and radiometric overlay identify heat anomalies and precise temperature readings across large facility footprints
  • Environmental monitoring: simultaneous thermal and EO capture supports vegetation and wildlife survey workflows
  • Night operations: 640×512 thermal with ≤50 mK sensitivity supports full-darkness mission capability

The Gremsy VIO G1 gives SkyScout Series operators optical zoom, thermal detection, and precision ranging in a single pre-integrated, NDAA-compliant payload. With a wide scene temperature range, live radiometric overlay, and a 19 mm athermal lens built for standoff observation, it is the payload of choice for industrial, diagnostic, and high-temperature mission profiles.

What's the difference between the Gremsy VIO F1 and Gremsy VIO G1?

The key difference is the thermal sensor. The F1 uses a FLIR Boson 640R running at 60 Hz, optimized for detection and surveillance missions. The G1 uses a Thermal Core 640 Radiometric sensor running at 30 Hz, which adds live radiometric temperature overlay on the video feed and a wider scene temperature range (up to 550°C in low gain vs. 500°C on the F1).

The G1 is the better choice for industrial diagnostics, asset inspection, and high-temperature anomaly detection. For ISR, search and rescue, and public safety missions where frame rate matters more than radiometric data, the F1 is the stronger fit.
