DJI Matrice 4T (Demo Unit): Quad-Sensor Thermal Drone With 49-Minute Flight Time and 112× Hybrid Zoom

The DJI Matrice 4T is DJI's dedicated thermal and public safety platform within the Matrice 4 Series: a compact, folding enterprise drone built around six integrated sensing modules—a 48 MP wide-angle camera at f/1.7, a 48 MP medium telephoto at 70 mm equivalent, a 48 MP telephoto at 168 mm equivalent with 112× hybrid zoom, a 640 × 512 uncooled VOx thermal camera, a laser rangefinder reaching 1,800 m (5,906 ft), and a built-in NIR auxiliary light with 100 m illumination range.

All six modules operate simultaneously on a single 3-axis stabilized gimbal with a tilt range of -90° to 70°, giving operators full situational awareness across visual, thermal, and near-infrared spectrums without swapping payloads or interrupting the mission.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Quad-sensor imaging: 48 MP wide, 48 MP medium tele, 48 MP tele, and 640 × 512 thermal on one gimbal.
  • Thermal imaging: uncooled VOx sensor with High-Res Mode up to 1,280 × 1,024 via Super Resolution.
  • Wide aperture: f/1.7 wide camera delivers superior low-light RGB capture without NIR assistance.
  • NIR auxiliary light: integrated illuminator reaches 100 m for clear nighttime target identification.
  • Laser rangefinder: measures distances to 1,800 m (5,906 ft) and tags GPS coordinates on targets.
  • AI detection: real-time identification of people, vehicles, and ships with custom model support.
  • Extended gimbal tilt: -90° to 70° range supports upward-looking inspection angles on structures.
  • Flight endurance: 49-minute flight time sustains long-duration overwatch and inspection sorties.
  • Hybrid zoom: 112× zoom identifies license plates and fine details from 250 m (820 ft) away.

This listing is for a like-new factory demo unit. The aircraft body carries a permanent factory engraving reading "Demo Unit Not For Sale," with the equivalent text in Chinese. This marking is cosmetic only and does not affect any flight system, camera, sensor, AI function, or software capability.

The aircraft is mechanically and electronically identical to a standard production M4T. Included with this unit: one Matrice 4 Series Intelligent Flight Battery, three propeller pairs, the DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise Edition controller, charger, charging hub, and the official DJI Matrice 4T carry case. The M4T does not carry an IP ingress protection rating and is not designed for operation in rain or wet conditions.

Six Sensors, One Gimbal, Zero Payload Swaps

The operational advantage of the M4T is not any single sensor—it is the fact that all six modules are always active and instantly switchable from the controller. In a search and rescue scenario, an operator can run wide thermal overwatch to locate a heat signature, switch to 112× hybrid zoom for positive visual identification, tag the GPS coordinate with the laser rangefinder, and illuminate the subject with the NIR auxiliary light, all without landing or changing configuration.

The thermal camera's High-Res Mode delivers 1,280 × 1,024 imagery via Super Resolution, while temperature measurement covers -20°C to 550°C (-4°F to 1,022°F) across two gain modes. For inspection workflows, the gimbal's 70° upward tilt allows operators to angle the camera toward underside structures, tower cross-members, and overhead infrastructure without repositioning the aircraft.

Compatibility and System Integration

  • DJI Pilot 2 app: primary flight operations and mission planning platform for all M4T workflows.
  • DJI FlightHub 2: cloud-based fleet management for live control, mission oversight, and multi-aircraft coordination.
  • DJI AL1 Spotlight: gimbal-following spotlight accessory for visible-light illumination during nighttime operations.
  • DJI AS1 Speaker: real-time voice communication accessory for ground interaction during flight operations.
  • D-RTK 3 Multifunctional Station: differential correction base for centimeter-level RTK positioning in the field.
  • DJI Cellular Dongle 2: optional 4G/LTE module for network RTK access and expanded link reliability.
  • RC Plus 2 Enterprise Enhanced Edition: optional upgraded controller with expanded accessory interface compatibility.
  • Payload SDK and Cloud API: support third-party PSDK device integration and enterprise software workflows.

Applications and Use Cases

  • Search and rescue: thermal detection locates heat signatures while zoom and rangefinder confirm subject coordinates.
  • Public safety and law enforcement: 112× hybrid zoom identifies license plates and individuals from safe standoff distances.
  • Power line inspection: 70° upward gimbal tilt and medium telephoto identify wire faults and hardware damage at altitude.
  • Wildfire management: thermal imaging tracks fire spread and hot spots through smoke in real time.
  • Infrastructure inspection: NIR auxiliary light and high-zoom telephoto document structural details after dark.
  • Wildlife conservation: NIR illumination and thermal imaging support nighttime population monitoring without disturbance.

The Matrice 4T is built for operators who cannot afford to land between capability switches. Its six integrated sensors cover the full range of visual, thermal, and near-infrared data collection requirements in a single compact airframe, keeping crews airborne and informed across the full duration of a mission.

What does "demo unit" mean for the Matrice 4T, and does the engraving affect any performance?

This aircraft was produced by DJI as an authorized dealer demonstration unit and has never been sold as a standard retail item. Its condition is like new. The body carries a permanent factory engraving reading "Demo Unit Not For Sale," with equivalent Chinese text. This marking is cosmetic only and has no effect on any flight system, camera, thermal sensor, AI detection, NIR illuminator, laser rangefinder, obstacle sensing, or software functionality. All published DJI Matrice 4T specifications apply to this unit in full.

Does the Matrice 4T have an IP rating for weather resistance?

No. The DJI Matrice 4T does not carry an IP ingress protection rating and is not designed for operation in rain, heavy moisture, or dusty conditions. Mission planning should account for weather windows, and the aircraft should not be flown through precipitation. If all-weather operation is a primary requirement, contact DSLRPros to discuss alternative platforms with certified IP ratings.

How does the thermal camera's High-Res Mode work, and what temperature ranges does it cover?

The M4T's 640 × 512 uncooled VOx thermal sensor includes a Super Resolution mode that produces images up to 1,280 × 1,024 resolution when High-Res Mode is enabled and the aircraft is not in Night Mode. Temperature measurement operates across two gain modes: High Gain covers -20°C to 150°C (-4°F to 302°F) with accuracy of ±2°C or ±2%, and Low Gain extends the range to 0°C to 550°C (32°F to 1,022°F) with accuracy of ±5°C or ±3%. Each unit is calibrated for temperature accuracy at the factory and includes an onboard temperature sensor for real-time compensation.

What is the difference between the RC Plus 2 Enterprise Edition and the Enterprise Enhanced Edition?

This listing includes the DJI RC Plus 2 Enterprise Edition, the standard controller for the Matrice 4 Series, which supports all M4T flight operations, thermal imaging workflows, and AI detection features. The RC Plus 2 Enterprise Enhanced Edition adds expanded interface components for compatibility with a broader range of industry accessories and is available as a separate purchase. For most public safety and inspection workflows, the standard Enterprise Edition is fully capable. Contact DSLRPros if your deployment requires the Enhanced Edition.

Can the NIR auxiliary light and AL1 Spotlight be used at the same time?

The NIR auxiliary light is built directly into the M4T gimbal and is always available without any accessory mounting. It provides near-infrared illumination up to 100 m and is designed to enhance low-light RGB camera performance and target identification. The DJI AL1 Spotlight is a separate accessory that attaches via the E-Port interface and provides visible-light illumination for ground interaction and area lighting. Both can be used in the same mission, with the NIR light supporting camera performance and the AL1 handling visible scene illumination. The AL1 Spotlight is sold separately and is not included with this listing.

How long can the Matrice 4T fly during construction monitoring missions?

Each Matrice 4 Series battery can provide up to 49 minutes of flight time or about 42 minutes of hover time depending on conditions. Because the bundle includes three additional batteries beyond the one included with the aircraft kit, operators can perform multiple monitoring flights during a single site visit.

How does the Matrice 4T help with construction inspections?

The Matrice 4T combines thermal imaging and visual cameras to inspect building systems during construction. Thermal imagery can reveal insulation gaps or heat leaks in ductwork before systems are completed. Visual imaging provides clear aerial views of site progress and construction activity.

How long can the DJI Matrice 4T fly during agricultural monitoring missions?

Each Matrice 4 Series battery provides up to 49 minutes of flight time or about 42 minutes of hover time depending on operating conditions.
