Leasing FAQ

Leasing FAQ

What’s the lease term?

24 months standard. Matrice 300 available with 12-month lease.

What’s the deposit?

A refundable deposit at approximately 20% of the retail product cost is required.

Is shipping included?

Yes, both directions.

Are accessories included?

Sold separately unless noted.

Do I need a license?

Yes, all leases require a Part 107 license and proof of insurance.

Can I hire a pilot?

Yes, we offer access to certified drone operators.

Is drone leasing better than buying for my agency or company?

Enterprise drone leasing is ideal if you want predictable monthly costs and want to avoid large upfront purchases. It’s the best choice for agencies and companies with ongoing programs that need access to advanced DJI drones without budget surprises.

What’s included when I lease a DJI drone?

Your DJI drone leasing package includes a fully configured, mission-ready unit with round-trip shipping. Select models include DJI Care Enterprise Plus for added protection. You also get access to licensed operators if needed.

How does payment work for leasing a drone?

When you lease a drone from DSLRPros, you pay the first month's fee plus a refundable deposit (~20% of retail value). This deposit is returned at the end of the lease pending inspection.

What are the standard drone lease terms?

All DJI drones have a standard 24-month lease term, except the DJI Matrice 300, which is available on a 12-month lease. Accessories are sold separately.

What’s the difference between drone rental and drone leasing?

Drone rental is short-term (days or weeks) for one-off projects or emergencies. Drone leasing is long-term (12–24 months) with predictable costs, better for ongoing programs that need consistent access to enterprise-grade DJI drones.

What are the requirements for drone leasing?

We require proof of FAA Part 107 certification and valid liability/hull insurance before shipping. This ensures your operations stay safe, legal, and compliant.

Can I upgrade or buy out my leased drone?

Talk to our drone leasing team about mid-term upgrades or end-of-term buyout options. We'll help you find a plan that works for your mission needs.

What is the standard lease term?

The standard lease term is 24 months. Select models, including the DJI Matrice 300, may be available with a 12-month lease—subject to approval and confirmation in your Lease Order.

How much is the deposit?

A refundable deposit is required at lease start. It is typically around 20% of the product’s retail price, but the exact amount is clearly listed in your Lease Order. The deposit is returned after your equipment is received, inspected, and verified to be in good working order, subject only to ordinary wear and tear.

What are my monthly payments?

Your Lease Order will specify a fixed Monthly Payment, plus any applicable sales tax based on your shipping address. The first Monthly Payment and the Refundable Deposit are charged together on the Start Date (when the drone ships).

What’s included in my lease?

Each drone lease includes:

  • A mission-ready drone (configured per manufacturer specs)
  • Round-trip shipping at no extra cost
  • Support from licensed operators available upon request
  • DJI Care Enterprise Plus included on select models (if listed in your Lease Order)

Accessories such as extra batteries, chargers, or payloads are not included unless specifically listed. These must be purchased separately.

What documentation is required?

Before approval, you must provide the following:

  • Valid Government-Issued Photo ID
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
  • Proof of Liability Insurance (minimum coverage: $1,000,000)
  • Proof of Hull/Damage Insurance (coverage equal to full lease value)

Insurance must remain active throughout the lease period.

Is shipping included?

Yes. DSLRPros covers both outbound and return shipping, using a carrier of our choice. If you choose your own shipping method or carrier, you’re responsible for any added costs, delays, or damage.

What happens at the end of the lease?

Before your lease ends, you’ll choose from these options:

  1. Return the Equipment

Send it back in good working order. After inspection, your Refundable Deposit will be returned in full, partially, or not at all depending on any damage or missing parts.

  1. Purchase the Equipment

Pay the Purchase Option Price listed in your Lease Order (minus your deposit), and ownership transfers to you.

  1. Extend Month-to-Month

Keep making Monthly Payments (up to 12 additional months). After the 36th month, you may buy out the drone for the deposit amount—or ownership transfers automatically if you retain it without returning.

What qualifies as “ordinary wear and tear”?

Normal signs of use like light surface marks or scuffs are acceptable. However, damage such as:

  • Cracked or missing components
  • Water or impact damage
  • Corrosion, deep scratches, or malfunction

… will be deducted from your deposit or billed separately.

What if my drone is damaged, lost, or stolen?

You remain financially responsible for all Monthly Payments and for returning the drone in working condition—even in cases of accident, loss, or theft. Your hull insurance policy should cover any damage or replacement cost.

Can I lease without a Part 107 license?

No. A valid FAA Part 107 certificate is required for all leases, and must be provided before your application can be approved.

Can I get help flying the drone?

Yes. DSLRPros offers access to licensed Remote Operators if your team requires assistance. Please request this service during your application process.

Why lease a drone instead of buying?

Leasing offers:

  • Predictable monthly costs (no large upfront expense)
  • Access to advanced DJI systems with lower capital risk
  • No depreciation or resale hassle
  • Support and compliance guidance from drone experts

It’s ideal for agencies and companies running ongoing drone operations in infrastructure, agriculture, public safety, or industrial inspection.
